Scorecard

Colchester v Fives and Heronians Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI on Sat 29 Jun 2002 at 1-30pm
Fives and Heronians Cricket Club Won 3 wickets

Match report Electing to bat, Colchester enjoyed some good fortune early on as Fives spilled five chances in the first hour; but once the second wicket partnership was broken with the score on 83 Fives regained the initiative. Wickets then fell at regular intervals and it was not until the final ball of the innings that Colchester reached 175, finishing on 178-8. Bowling honours went to James Mckay with 2-39 from 12 overs and to Sooty with 3-49 from 19 overs. Despite the early dropped catches the bowling and fielding display showed considerable improvement over those of recent weeks.

KD, back from university and Ben Britton opened the innings with a partnership of 45, this should have laid the foundation for a comfortable victory, but 45-0 became 85-6 as Colchester's Warren ran through the middle order. James Mckay and James Lawes then took charge adding 74 and taking Fives to the brink of victory before James Mckay was caught in the deep for an excellent 41. Sooty joined James Lawes in knocking off the remaining runs. James finished 49 not out as the target was reached with 6 overs and three wickets in hand. A welcome victory on the back of two consecutive defeats.
