Hadleigh & Thundersley v Fives and Heronians Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI on Sat 03 Sep 2005 at 1.00
Fives and Heronians Cricket Club Won won by 2 wickets

Match report Dan won the most important toss of the season thus far and inserted Hadleigh in the hazy humid sunshine.

TC & JK opened the bowling to great effect, bowling a very consistent line and length restricitng scoring opportunities for both hadleigh openers - one of them in particular who scored 17 in 33 overs. (good job the scorer is only semi-professional as I would have run out of ink and space in the book with all the dot balls).

Devang Gandhi strode to the crease with the score on 13 for1 off 10 overs.

Fives to a man, knew this was a wicket they had to take as quickly as possible and TC duly obliged, abily assisted by 'safe hands bommer' by removing him for a stylish 30.

Following his dismisal, Hadleigh struggled to get any momentum in their innings, due largely to chalks who bowled a quite magnificent spell which at one stage read 4 for 12 off 9.

Hadleigh were eventually all out for 127 in 45.4 overs leaving fives plenty of time to knock off the required runs.

Brace yourselves before you read on if you suffer from heart problems.....................

Sheeny and Porks opened and sheeny was in particularly beligerent form smashing a very quickfire 12 before he missed a straight one. Porks soon departed and Fives were woobling a little on 28 for 2 - cue TC, chalky, Myself, Dan & Tb to start frantically looking for some ciggies - cue clarkys duty free to calm the nerves.

Braths was looking very composed at the wickets (he seems to every week) and with dan and Tb took the score onto 98 - leaving fives with 30 required for victory with 6 wickets hand and over 2 hours to knock them off - no problems - think again.

The dismisal of Neil started a mini-collapse, with both Petrol & Gordrick leaving straight ones - under different circumstances I would have wet msyelf at the sight of petrol getting bowled for a golden duck offering no stroke -

However with the possibility of relegation looming it was no laughing matter!!

Enter that man - Chris 'chalky' White who showed great composure and experience in guiding the F&H though to a much needed and deserved win.

Man of The Match - A close call between Braths and chalky with chalky just pipping it for his all round display with both bat and ball - braths perhaps u need to remind dan of your bowling ability (although perhaps not when there are many club memebrs about, as you can only hear one story so many times!)

Roll on Chingford...............
