Match report Fives collected 6 points and earned a hard fought draw on Saturday at a sun-baked Hornchurch. Fielding first on what was a very flat and batsmen friendly pitch along with a very fast outfield Fives managed to put a rather mixed bowling and fielding display in what were very difficult and draining conditions. Although Hornchurch batted extremely well Fives did not seem to get the rub of the green at times as the Hornchurch batsmen were riding their luck with some of their shots and the odd umpiring decision not going in our favour. Although most of the bowlers were expensive, credit must be given to Chris White(4-74)who picked up some late wickets in the Hornchurch innings of 274-5 dec.

Chasing 274 was never going to be easy, particulary when you have to tell half the team not to over-indulge during the teatime three-course meal. Chicken curry,pasta,cottage pie,ribs,chips etc (you name it, and it was available to eat). Anyway back to the action...Braithwaite(77) and Rana Shahbaz(66) both played sensibly to give Fives the platform. Fives were giving it a good go, however the unfortunate dismissal of Braithwaite stopped some of the momentum of the team and from here Fives were struggling to keep up with the run rate which was probably 8 an over and increasing. The very impressive Zain Iqbal played a very correct innings of 46 not out to keep Fives in the hunt, but Fives probably left it a tad late as the game eventually ended in a draw(246-6).

The draw leaves Fives with a small lead at the top of the table after a third of the season.
