Fives and Heronians Cricket Club Sunday Cup XI v Enfield on Sun 31 Jul 2005 at 2.00
Fives and Heronians Cricket Club Won by 10 runs

Match report Fives opted to bat first on Sunday against a Wanstead side compromising a mixture of colts and senior heads (adnan akram being amongst that number).

Jack Swash who was still at the paddock from the previous evening failed to trouble the scorers although look very accomplished in the 4 balls he faced. It was left to Gordrick and Matt 'cider' Sutton to take the score to 41 b4 we lost a second wicket, with 'cider' being adjudged LBW for a brisk 18 - this was partly to the captains relief, who was fearing there may have been a repeat of the previous evenings little 'accident' on the wicket.

What followed can only be described as shambolic batting with poor calling and shot selection, which resulted in Fives finding themselves on 75 for 5 with Lee Hilton nowhere to be seen.

It was left to 'petrol' (42) and lawesy (88) to put on a 100 run partnership which boosted the score to nearly 200 with 6 overs left. It was then left to Daniel Stevens, VJ and the skipper to bost the score to a very respectable 258 for 9 off our allotted 40 overs- It is to Adnan Akrams' credit that attacking fields were set for most of our innings.

We took the field and Matt 'Cider' Sutton and VJ (3 for 22) opened the bowling, with 'cider' bowling with genuine pace and Vj bowling a nagging offstump line making the batsmen play most balls.

With Wanstead on around 75 for 3 off 18, cue Adnan Akram who played a very fine innings of 55 to leave Wanstead needing 90 off the last 12 overs. Russell Beckett bowled a very fine spell (1 for 48) including the crucial wicket of Adnan who was caught by 'gordrick' quite brilliantly at deep extra cover which probably turned the game in our favour.

With wickets falling regularly in the last 10 overs, 14 were required off the last over with 1 wicket left, but Wanstead could only manage 2 runs (respect for my bowling is essential if you are to survive as a batsmen)

Another good day for the Sunday A at the paddock as we picked up our fourth win on the trott, wining by a margin of 10 runs.

Man of The Match Award - Matt 'Cider' Sutton (more for his performace in the bar on Saturday night - where there were very strong ciders being downed)
