Match report Fives 2nd Eleven suffered a heavy defeat in their first league game of the season. Having lost the toss Hornchurch decided to bat first and their decision was justified as they complied a huge 284-7 dec. It was hard going for the Fives bowlers right from the start. Although the bowling wasn't bad, the slightest misjudgment in line or length was dispatched, particularly to the very short boundary. It was also hard going in the field where a number of dropped catched proved costly in the end. Everyone tried their hardest, but Fives didn't have any answers to some of the big Hornchurch hitters. Daniel Platt bowled well near the death to take three wickets on his league debut.

In reply Fives had enough time to get the runs but only if they somehow managed to bat out of their skin. This was always going to prove a tall order, especially as the team had 3 or 4 new players and a few who had not picked up a bat for year or so. The Hornchurch total proved too much and Fives struggled to come anywhere the 284 required. Although James Lawes tried with a nice knock of 41, Fives lost their final wicket with only 4 ball left in the contest to end up losing by 128 runs.
