Fives and Heronians Cricket Club Lost 8 wickets

Match report Fives lost by 8 wickets against Hornchurch in a match which they probably feel they should never have lost. Although the margin of victory was 8 wickets Fives were pretty much in the driving seat for most of it. Having lost the toss Fives were asked to bat and managed a reasonable total of 224-6 on a flat pitch and fast outfield with the highlight being Adrian Palmer's 68. The big factor in that being a reasonable total was the fact that Hornchurch had taken some time to bowl their 52 overs which meant they started thier innings at 5.15.

In reply Fives bowled and fielded ok at the start and by 6.15 or so Hornchurch needed approximately 150+ runs with probably 24/25 overs left to do it in. However, it was at this stage the 'wheels started come off' and for some reason Fives fell apart in the field with some bad cricket. Confidence was starting to drain and the effects of the Hornchurch tea and the hot weather seemed to effect everyone apart from the two batsmen who to their credit batted extremely well under pressure to guide their side home with still 5 overs to spare or so.

Fives didn't play terribly it was probably just a bad hour which changed the face of the game and maybe a little bit of inexperience with a side containing 5 players 17 or under. Hopefully it will be a bit of a learning curve and the team will come back stronger for next week.
