Fives and Heronians Cricket Club Lost 114 runs

Match report Fives won the toss and gambled big, hoping for a win, inserting the opposition on a hot day. A very accurate opeing spell by Moshin yielding only 5 from his first four overs was offset by some slightly wayward offerings by Chris Campbell being despatched to all parts. Akash Chopra, in his first appearance in adult cricket, took an over or two to settle and steadily improved claiming his first wicket thanks to an excellent low catch by Lewis Forman at extra cover. An excellent spell of controlled bowling by Maddo and Uncle Yaz created the pressure to pick up five wickets, one thanks to a fine catch on the long on boundary by Lewis, for only 28 runs and put Fives right back in the game. However, a powerfully struck 47 in 33 balls by H&T's number 9 wrested the initiative back with 46 runs coming from the last 4 overs.

A target of 280 in 51 overs is only slightly over par at Old Chigs and the plan was to reach 150 by the the start of the last 20 with wickets in hand. The first part was achieved with 165 on the board but unfortunately the second objective was not met as a succession of batsmen succumbed to tired shots and two schoolboy-error run-outs meant that we were 8 down with nothing but bonus points to look for. High spot of the innings was the biggest six ever seen at Old Chigs (struck by Moshin) which bounced at least 50 yards over the longest boundary.

Honourable mention must be given to Joe Mordrick who stepped into the breach at very short notice, borrowing wicket keeping equipment from the opposition and performing really well to gather some fairly wide offerings. Also worthy of note was a marathon effort of 19 overs by Uncle Yaz whose figures of 3 for 54 off 17 were somewhat spoiled in the final slog.
