Match report Fives lost the toss and were inserted on a dodgy West Essex strip. Excellent bowling made life difficult for all the batsmen with only Commander Grrene summuning up the patience and technique required to make a two and a half hour 38 andf Tim Nash a breezy 24 before a tragic "Yes - No - Sorry" incident put paid to his efforts. Faced with our perenial West Essex nemesis, skipper Butt, 135 was never going to be enough, particularly as our top four bowlers this season were all absent. The stand-in bowlers tried manfully but with two just having returned fron long holidys and a third coming back after a dislocated shoulder, nobody was able to command the line and length needed for the pitch to do its worst. Butt made 75% of the runs made from the bat which gives an indication of his influemce over the match. A noteworthy feature, which would probably have turned the game, was when a ball from Chirag clipped his off stump without dislodging a bail.
