Match report Winning the toss and electing to bat was the perfect start to what turned out to be a really good game of cricket. Neil Braithwaite had chipped his nail varnish so was running late which allowed Joe Samuel and Geofrey Emanuel to open the innings, both openers looking settled and in little trouble. Joe pushed hard at a ball short of a length and was out to a good catch. By now Neil’s nail varnish had dried so he decided to grace us with some lovely shots before chipping one straight to midwicket for a quick 29. Kish looked good until he also chipped one to mid-on, all this time Geoff was at the other end punishing the bad ball on his way to a very good 51 from 61 balls. Once Geoff was out with the score on 109-4,Hugo and Rahul Patel took the attack to the opposition and it was a really good partnership which allowed fives to declare on 268 for 4 with Hugo making his maiden 100 from 89 balls, he played some fantastic shots and looks to be a 1st team player in the making. Rahul was left on 43 not out from 52 balls and it goes without saying that he is a class act.
Chingford lost an early wicket with the score on one from Rahul’s first ball. The Chingford batsman after this early loss set about the fives attack with some quality batting. All their players who batted scored at a run a ball and even though Fives had Chingford eight wickets down it was probably down to our catching as to why we did not win the game. Chingford got home with 2.3 overs left of the last hour. Our bowlers all tried hard on a really good wicket but we probably lacked the discipline of line and length and probably bowled with too much width which makes it hard to set a field.
