Match report Brathwaite won the toss on a hot afternoon and elected to bat. Loughton bowled a very testing opening spell which the Fives openers, Brathwaite & Blogg, did well to get through. A 139 run partnership followed with both batsman punishing anything loose. Brathwaite (64) departed shortly after the drinks break with a score of 275 looking likely. KD Bhachu came in and kept up the momentum but Blogg's departure for a well played 74 change Fives fortunes. KD played some majestic drives but not for the first time lost concentration and was stumped for 34. of the remaining batsman only OJ (19) looked capable of taking the score past 250. On his departure Fives stuttered to a disappointing total of 249-9. Loughton chase began shakily by losing 2 early wickets to Babar (2-34). Fives fielded with purpose and eventually broke a 80 odd partnership. The game was finely balanced at the drinks interval. Loughton needing 130 of 22 and Fives needing 6 wickets. Wickets fell at regular intervals with Byfield (2-63)and McKay (2-44). It looked as though it could be Fives 1st victory of the season. A wicket apiece from Huw Morgan and Ali Cayir increased the tension as Loughton lost their 9th wicket with 8 runs needed. However, it was not to be. A couple of poor overs at the death gave Loughton a scent of victory. Their winning runs coming in the final over....oh so close.
A much improved performance coinciding with having 11 men.
