Match report The hare and the tortoise?
We lost the toss and were put in on a greenish pitch in humid conditions against an older and stronger looking team. Luke and Ben saw off the opening bowlers with slow but steady scoring. Pat made the best contribution. (30 retired). In the 17th over we were only 59 for the loss of 1 and our 84 after 20 never felt like enough.
But we won the mind game and defended a total that the opposition thought they could knock off comfortably. They just took too much time and due to very tight bowling and fielding they were persistently behind the run rate. It was supremely tense all the way through with Gidea Park needing 2 off the last ball for a win. They failed to score and an elated Fives U15 won by a single run. How did we hold them to 83 off 20 ? Well we conceded only 3 extras and the bowling figures speak for themselves. Special mention to Rishin who took 2 for 4 off 4 overs with 3 maidens, and to Aarav (up from the U13s) who took 2 for 8 off his 4 overs.
