Fives and Heronians Cricket Club News story

Shirley Pettet

09 Nov 2015

We are saddened to report the passing of Shirley Pettet who passed away on Wednesday 4th November after a lengthy battle against cancer. Many of you will have fond memories of Shirley who was a passionate West Ham fan and season ticket holder and just as passionate about Fives and Heronians. Shirley was always so proud of her Derek who was making big strides as a cricketer from a young age and enjoyed nothing more than watching Del take wickets or score runs. Shirley had the bonus of watching Tom Yallop (her grandson) become a really good player after Derek decided to not play as much. Fives and Heronians was a place that Shirley loved to be at. Shirley was an amazing character in the way she faced many battles against cancer. Never complained about the hand she was dealt. A true fighter who just got on with life the best she could. If Shirley was a quick bowler I think there would have been many a batsman who would not fancy facing her. A great lady who we were lucky to have at Fives and Heronians.
