Friday Night Training and Coaching
Fives and Heronians Colts Coaching sessions will incorporate a mixture of technique, demonstration and practice, skill, fitness games and practice matches.
Coaching will be done using all facilities, including the nets and hard balls. It is important to cover all aspects of cricket such as:
- Fielding – techniques of retrieving, intercept and throwing, and fielding positions
- Batting – repertoire of defensive and attacking strokes
- Bowling – bowling action plus introduction to spin and swing bowling
- General cricket knowledge – umpire signals, laws of the game incorporating the spirit of cricket.
When is training - Friday evenings starting from mid April until early September
What time is training - training starts at 6.30pm.
Please be mindful that it is very difficult to run sessions without ever knowing how many children will turn up from one week to the next and sometimes we are reliant on seeing the numbers before allocating coaches to certain age groups.
Attire - Juniors are expected to wear a white cricket shirt or Club kit (which is available from the Club clothing shop link on the website) to training. For matches, full whites must be worn.
ECB Coach to junior ratios - Group coaching 1 coach to 24 juniors
Hard ball coaching 1 coach to 16 juniors
Net coaching 1 coach to 8 juniors
Net coaching can only be taken by coaches who hold the appropriate ECB qualification
What shall I do in the advent of bad weather - A message on the front page of the Fives website (http://fivesandheroniancss.hitscricket.com) will appear no later than 5:00pm on a Friday evening.
Travel Arrangements - Arrangements should be made for your child to travel to and from training sessions and matches. We appreciate it if children can arrive promptly so the coaches can gauge how to run the session. Please do not leave your child until you are sure a coach/manager is present.
