Fives and Heronians Cricket Club Under 11 v South Woodford on Sun 13 May 2012 at 9.15am
Fives and Heronians Cricket Club Won by 28 runs

Match report A fantastic result for our first match of the season. Everyone contributing to an exciting win which was in ‎the balance until near the end of S.Woodford’s innings.‎
‎ ‎
We won the toss and chose to bat on a very slow wicket. Portia and Shaan opened against tight bowling. ‎After six overs we had scored only 10 runs off the bat and were on only 21. During the next couple of ‎overs we lost both openers, bowled, Portia for 7 and Shaan for 5. Viraj and Charles accelerated the ‎scoring with some electric running which put the fielders under great pressure. The bowling was not as ‎accurate and the runs flowed quicker off the bat and from extras. We were consistently getting three runs ‎for a wide as we sprinted to take advantage of any weakness. Viraj was run out for 8, which was ‎unfortunate as it did not look as if S.Woodford would get him out any other way. Patrick went in and the ‎running for extras continued, with Charles finding the gaps in the fielding with the bat. Patrick was caught ‎for 1 and Sanjana joined Charles. Sanjana batted and backed up really well and the score continued to ‎move along briskly until Sanjana was also run out, for 5. Nick joined Charles who was building a good ‎score. Nick got off the mark with a good shot and left Charles facing S.Woodford’ Karjol. ‎Charles was bowled for 22 by a Yorker. Harry was given the same treatment next ball, followed ‎immediately by George. A hat-trick at the death!! Charles was involved in 70 of the runs we achieved and ‎took every opportunity to run. We had compiled 113 for 8. (48 off the bat and 65 extras)‎
‎ ‎
S.Woodford batted well and looked comfortable for the first few overs until Charles struck and bowled ‎Karjol, with a ball that was the replica of the one she had bowled him with – touché!(except she only ‎scored 4 runs). We were bowling really accurately and limiting the extras we gave away – with Patrick ‎keeping tightly for the first ten overs and Nick doing the same for the final 10. Viraj took 2 wickets for 5 ‎from 3 overs, Niall 1 for 7 off 2 overs, Harry 2 for 12 off 2 overs (consecutive balls and it was a near ‎thing for a hat-trick!), Portia and Finley both bowled brilliantly with 0 for 8 off 3 and 2 overs respectively, ‎Sanjana 0 for 9 off 2 overs, Shaan 0 for 13 off 2 overs and Charles 1 for 16 off 3 overs. We ran out 3 of ‎their batsmen and our disciplined fielding was a vital factor in the victory. Niall’s wicket was a caught and ‎bowled and he also took a catch off Harry’s bowling – well done! (49 off the bat and 36 extras)‎
‎ ‎
A great team effort and warm up for the Power League on Wednesday.
