Frenford v Fives and Heronians Cricket Club Under 11 on Wed 13 Jun 2012 at 6pm
Fives and Heronians Cricket Club Lost by 6 wickets
Match report
What a fantastic, tight game of cricket – unfortunately we lost
Frenford won the toss and put us in to bat. They bowled very accurately throughout, but particularly in the first 4/5 overs – only 2 wides in the whole innings. Nick and Shaan opened and batted very well and started to make progress after a tentative start against the accurate and quick onslaught. Nick scored 11 with some sensible shot making before being bowled. Shaan scored 18 before being caught having struck some mighty blows that looked to be leaving Essex! Viraj was next in and defended his wicket without being able to penetrate the fielders with his shots. He was joined by Charles who immediately livened up proceedings and scored quickly, not much less than a run a ball. Viraj started picking off singles, well backed up by Charles, who seemed to arrive at the batter’s crease only moments after the ball had been struck – putting the fielders under intense pressure. Viraj scored 9 before being run out. Patrick joined Charles and he was happy to let Charles get as much of the strike as he could. The runs were coming steadily when Charles was run out – a very tight decision – for 17. Rohan joined Patrick and the scoring stuttered briefly and as progress was returning Rohan was run out for 0. George joined Patrick and they batted out the last two overs – Patrick was 13 NO and George 1 NO. We had scored 68 off the bat. Frenford had no one behind the wicket keeper and conceded 9 byes and both wides were run for 3.
Charles opened the bowling off a long run up and bowled a full toss – the batsman tried a hefty pull, got a top edge, the ball flew high over the wicket keeper and as we held our breath Nathan came running in and took a fantastic catch diving forward – golden duck! The over was a wicket maiden and we had made the perfect start. Viraj opened from the other end off an equally long run, unfortunately the first ball was a wide and Frenford were off the mark. However, he made amends 4 balls later as the batsman played on and was bowled. Frenford’s next two batsmen were very good and scored steadily and we had several poor overs. These batsmen were retired on 17 and 21 and we had let them get ahead of the necessary run rate. We had some success, Nathan did some smart fielding, hitting the stumps with his throw and Finley took a wicket, caught by Viraj. Our stand out bowler was Finley with 1 for 9 off 3 overs. Frenford only scored 52 off the bat and we gave away 11 wides but no byes.
This was a very good cricket match
