Match report This was a tough team/match in difficult weather conditions.

Wansted batted first and had their progress interrupted in the first over when Niall bowled one of their openers. They scored fast thereafter and although we took wickets they ended up 187 for 8. We fielded well generally – there were some dropped catches and the odd miss-field. We conceded 14 in wides and 12 in no balls, but no byes/leg byes. The bowlers figures are as follows:- Adam 0 for 21 off 3, Arian 1 for 3 off 1, Harry 0 for 32 off 2, Matthew 0 for 31 off 3, Nasser 0 for 25 off 2, Nathan 0 for 17 off 2, Niall 2 for 15 off 3,, Patrick C 1 for 25 off 2 and Roshan 0 for 17 off 2. We had 4 run-outs and Adam took 2 catches (plus 2 more off what were called no-balls). Wansted scored 161 off the bat – 8 an over!

The target was huge but we tried really hard and ran well between the wickets. Patrick Coglan and Nathan gave us a solid start before Nathan was run out for 5. Patrick D joined Patrick C and we looked to be developing a partnership when Patrick C was bowled for 8. Matthew joined Patrick and was run out for 0, backing up on what was a risky single. Adam joined Patrick and hit a couple of nice shots before being caught for 5. Harry hit one 4 before being yorked. Nasser made 4 scoring shots before being run-out for 5. Patrick was scoring steadily and was on 33 when he was joined by Niall. Patrick retired on 35 in the next over. Roshan joined Niall. In quick succession we lost Roshan – run out 0, Niall caught for 1, Max run out for 1. Patrick rejoined the batting with Arian for the last few balls. Arian hit a single. The fielder took a shy at the stumps, missed! Arian and Patrick continued running and had run 4 before the ball went over the boundary for four more overthrows. Arian had scored 8 off the last ball – we were 111 for 8. Wansted had conceded 25 in wides, 8 in no balls and 5 in byes. We scored 73 off the bat.

A very good team effort against the Wansted ‘A’ team, full of District and Essex players. Our stand out performers were Patrick – 35 NO and excellent behind the stumps(no byes), Niall 2 for 15 off 3 overs, Adam 2 catches (plus!!), 0 for 21 off 3 and general excellent fielding and Arian 1 for 3 off 1, 9 NO and a very enthusiastic display in the field.

Our Man – of – the – Match is Arian for a fantastic effort against an excellent team. Well done Arian.
