Match report This was a wet and cold day. Younger members were reminded of the need to bring several layers of clothing, and also to wear spikes. Apart from the two Grahams (Sibley opening stylishly and Cannish in a much more vigorous style) the batting was turgid, not helped by a slow wicket and even slower outfield. Young Manraj in his first outing for a men's team showed great application for 90 minutes but lacked the power to penetrate a tight one-saving ring.

Fives bowling was much more impressive than the batting with all performing well apart from Arun who pulled a shoulder muscle with his second ball. Pick of the bunch was veteran Bob Speller returning after a near two-year absence to show the benefits of a consistent line and length. Improved catching would have seen him with a better return than 2-17 off 10 overs.

Note to 4th XI captain - the Academy captain moved further ahead in the outfield catching stakes.....
