Fives and Heronians Cricket Club Lost 80 runs

Match report F&H lost the toss and were expecting to be put to the sword by top of the table Goresbrooke's 3rd team. Things did not turn out that way. Excellent opening spells by Awais and Habib who both got an early wicket, Habib's thanks to a superb catch by Richard, checked their progress and was followed by Uriel and Will who both kept the pressure on. Will's three overs only went for 8, after which 13 year old Rayn began an unbroken spell of off-spin. Although he didn't get a wicket he responded well to being attacked and conceded less than 5 an over. Lucas also bowled well, especially when he remembered that he was not playing Under 13's so any short ball would be dispatched to the boundary. He responded well and came back at the death with a very tidy over. At this point, the two Goresbrooke batsmen had been together since the 3rd over and were seeing it like a football. One ended up 101* to take his season average over 400 (sic) while the other ended on 68*. Both batsmen complemented us on the tightness of our attack and the quality of the fielding - they expected to top 240 and were kept to 193 - a great team effort.

In reply, F&H struggled against a very tight opening attack, which was followed by a spell of 8 overs, 2 for 16 from the Essex U15 slow left armer. No batsman managed to establish themselves against the sustained pressure of the the best attack in our division and we ended up 9 down and 80 short. Goresbrooke are top of the League, undefeated this year, and have only drawn one match but they complemented us for the way our team played and for the spirit shown, especially by our four U13's.
