Hainault & Clayhall v Fives and Heronians Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI on Sat 30 Apr 2005 at 1.30
Fives and Heronians Cricket Club Won 7 wickets
Match report
For the second consecutive week i lost the toss and the oppostion decided to have a bat on what looked a decent track. In general the bowling was fairly good with the opening pair of Josh Peters and Ed Murphy bowling tight. The first lot of bowling changes saw Addison and Poulter replace the opening pair and once again both bowled well. It must be said that Poulter was having one of those days where his figures didn't actually reflect his bowling as he had a few catches dropped of his bowling. The last bowling changes saw the spin twins of Wheels and Hoops come on who although got 7 wickets between us have bowled better. The fielding was a bit mixed really. In terms of effort and commitment it was very good for a friendly game. The ground fielding was not bad on a bumpy outfield, although our catching let us down a bit. A special mention to Jack Swash whose keeping was first class. Chasing 170 it was all one way traffic as Foley(82) and Foulds(61) dominated from the start both playing sensible and well paced innings. As per usual there was the traditional Fives mini-collapse where wickets fall quickly and you are looking for players who have not already showered and changed, but apart from the little blip at the end it was a fine victory by 7 wickets.
In conclusion there is certainly room for improvement from everyone in certain areas. There will obviously be tougher tests ahead in terms of the opposition once the league starts, but you can only beat what's in front of you. Winning games can only increase the confidence of the team, so two out of two is a good soild start.
SUN STAR MAN: James Foley (82) & Jack Swash (4 catches and a stumping)
Champayne Moment: Richard Gull topping up his suntan in April whilst waiting two hours to bat only to get nought.
