Match report The Sunday Club XI recorded a convincing win at Sawbridgeworth on Sunday. Losing the toss and being put in the field on this very pleasant afternoon, Fives had an early success when Steve Poulter took a magnificent diving catch in the gully off of Jeremy Mordrick's bowling. This was a bit of a false dawn as the Sawbo batsmen set about mounting a formidible total of 261. Best of the Fives bowlers was 12 year old Tom Alcorn who took 3-48 from 8.4 overs.
In reply Fives were soon struggling at 6 for 1 as they lost guest star Jamie Perryman (ex-Wells stumper) to a well held skyed catch. This brought together Jon Thurston and Mordrick who set about the Sawbo bowling with a vengence. Both were soon well into their stride, and scoring at the staggering rate of around 9 an over, the two continued to hammer the ball to all parts. When Thurston was finally bowled for 81, they had set a new Fives 'B' XI second wicket partnership record of 232. Mordrick continued the carnage to finish the game within a couple of overs and finish the game not out on 148 from 92 balls. Fives reached their target with 13 overs to spare and in fact only needed 29 overs to reach their target.
