Fives and Heronians Cricket Club Lost By 180 Runs

Match report Fives put in their worst performance of the season as a shambolic effort saw another huge defeat this time away at Hadleigh by 180 runs.

Having lost another toss, Fives were asked to field first and made steady progress to reduce Hadleigh to 60-3.

Jonny Kay was probably the only player to come out of the game with any sort of credit having taken the first 3 wickets to fall including Hadleigh's Aussie overseas star Dan Jackson for 32.

Thereafter, a mixture of wide bowling, dreadful fielding and slogging from home captain Adam Fleming (87) and Oliver Wagstaff (75) meant Hadleigh were able to declare early on 281-7 from 50 overs with this and the next 8 fixtures back to the timed format.

Terry Ballard was the only other bowler to take any credit by collecting figures of 9-2-37-2 - Fives overseas player Irfan Ahmed also took 2 wickets but was wayward conceding nearly 8 runs an over.

Fives reply started disastrously as Gary Edwards was lbw for 8, Phil Apps cleaned-up for a duck and TB brilliantly caught in the slips for 9.

Dan Stevens and Irfan Ahmed resisted for a number of overs and looked very solid but Stevens was bowled for 24 and Ahmed offered a simple return catch to Jackson who went onto finish with brilliant figures of 10.1-3-21-5 as the collapse kicked-in.

Thereafter only Bilal Ashfaq with a quickfire 15 made double figures as Fives were humbled for just 101 from the first ball of the last 20 overs as Jamie Porter offered a simple return catch for Jackson to complete the rout which summed up the Fives performance.

After a 170 run thrashing at home to Orsett last week, the Fives team were sadly embarrassing from start to finish. Next week the side are at home to Shenfield as Fives now slip into the relegation zone in division one.
