Match report After finally winning a league toss for the first time, Skipper Jonny Kay decided to bat. Fives struggled early on and were in real trouble at 16 for 2, 48 for 3, 62 for 4 and 77 for 5. Terry Ballard and Dan Stevens had done well to steady the ship, but it was left to Irfan Ahmed to play another sensible, mature innings that included a number of sumptuous shots. His 60 proved crucial in the game, and, with strong support from Rahul Bhome and Phil Apps in the late middle order, Fives pushed themselves up to 185. Kay suffered a (very painful) back spasm in the last over and was rushed off to A&E, leaving vice captain Edwards the unenviable task of marshalling the troops with just 10 men in the field.

By all accounts, the bowling and fielding efforts were, overall, really excellent and much improved on the shambolic previous few weeks. Ahmed, Bhome and Jamie Porter bowled excellently, continuing to take wickets and apply pressure. Unfortunately, the final pair managed to survive the last 6 overs of the game to secure a draw, Shenfield finishing on 145-9. Fives claim 10 points to Shenfield's 5. All in all, this is a much improved effort and should give the team some much needed confidence going into the absolutely crucial game at bottom club Hutton next week.
