Match report Fives and Heronians set about life in division 1 with a disappointing 6 wicket defeat away at Brentwood. On an overcast afternoon, the home side after winning the toss elected to field. Early Indications suggested that the decision may have been mistake as F+H comfortably made their way to 62-1 off of 14 overs. However, the departures of Stevens and Foley in quick succession rocked the visitors as they slumped to 70-3. This brought together Terry Ballard and Ian Rotsey for a partnership that was to be indicative of the rest of the match.Together the pair took the score to beyond the 200 mark with over 15 overs left. Rotsey played the role of understudy in the partnership, with an invaluable innings of (32) inherent of the application Fives and Heronians middle order must show in order to succeed this Year.On the other hand, Ballard's imperious innings of (119) included a portfolio of strokes all around the wicket. Brentwood set about their reply with some aggressive batting of their own, initially led by John Walford. Despite losing Debenham for just 5, the home side's score quickly surpassed 100 with Walford leading the way with 70 runs off just 73 balls. However, his departure at the hands of Andrew Coleman signalled a window of opportunity for the visitors to seize back the momentum. Fives will rue missed chances early on, as Damien Brandy and Hrishikesh Kanitkar once again built a damaging Partnership. Brandy (64) departed towards climax of the encounter with Fives still in with a chance. However, the experienced Kanitkar steered the home team to victory with little over an over left. At the conclusion of the match Fives skipper Stevens said, "Credit deservedly goes to Brentwood for chasing such a large total today, though I can't help but believe the toss was the vital aspect of the game. Overall, I am pleased with my players and don't see too many teams chasing 277. The rest of the season is a head of us and we will only get stronger from here on out."
