Match report There was a new look about things as the season begun for the 2nd Eleven at the Paddock on saturday. The ground had a new look about it with all the hard work which had been done over the last few months clear to see. A new 2nd eleven umpire and tea ladies(The Ambridge family), new prospective players; Josh Peters, Ricky Reynolds and Neil Selby and finally a new captain who is glad to report that had eleven players, as the last time i captained a Fives side we had only seven plus Jolly turn up and we were knocked out of the Cocking Cup in the first round.
Anyway, after losing the toss the lads took to the field and in general bowled and fielded ok for the first time out. There was a bit of rust shown at times, but the pick of the bowling was Del Pettet who took the new ball and bowled very well. On the fielding side Josh Peters was the pick showing great athletism throughout and also Chris 'buckethands' Rotsey who took two blinding catches.
Set 220 to win it was all about the youth and the three 16 year olds who got fifties each. Josh Peters (84), Jack Swash (51) and Adrian' Dont boda runnin' Palmer(Tino) who was 'mashing-up de ball' to all parts of the ground making 51 of just 37 balls. All batted brilliantly scoring their runs at a good rate.
Although a friendly, it was good work out with a lot of encouraging signs for the season ahead.
