Fives and Heronians Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI v South Woodford on Sat 09 Jul 2005 at 1.30
Fives and Heronians Cricket Club Won 3 wkts

Match report Fives beat a strong South Woodford side by the margin of 3 wickets in what was a very hard fought game at the Paddock on Saturday. Fives elected to field first and the South Woodford batsmen were intent on dominating from the start playing some very attacking strokes. Although SW's run rate was at about 5 an over, Fives stuck to their task well and didn't panic by picking up wickets on the way in what was a very entertaining start from both sides. Hall and Addison bowled well, with Addison in particular showing great form picking up another three scalps to make it 8 wickets in total in the last 2 weeks. The game was evenly balanced after 20 overs or so with SW on about 100-4 or so. A bowling change saw Poulter replace Hall and he soon found some good rhythm. He bowled consistent throughout to finish with (13-3-42-2) as did James McKay(8.5-2-16-3) on his comeback appearance for Fives. The SW batsmen were scoring at a good rate, but the Fives bowling attack kept plugging away and nicked wickets at crucial stages to leave SW all out for 201 after only 44 overs at about 4.10. Another note from our fielding display which was once again good was that Jack Swash took 5 catches behind the stumps. He kept very well and like alot of the other youngsters is improving all the time.

This left Fives with plenty of time to get the runs, but SW had a very good bowling attack so this was never going to be easy. After the early and controversial dismissal of Brathwaite (LBW) to what can be described as `one hell of a long appeal', it was the turn of Foley(47) and Iqbal to see of the new ball. The run rate was steady, but they were doing a fine job laying a platform for the rest of the team making sure we didn't lose early wickets. Fives were just about on top going into the last 20 overs needing 100+ with seven wickets in hand. The two 16 year olds of Jack Swash and Adrian `Tino' Palmer were at the crease and not for the first time this year batted very maturly to see Fives get closer to their target. It was Tino in particular who swung the game Fives way `mashing up de ball' to all parts of the ground in making a fine 72 to record his second consecutive 50. Fives lost the odd wicket in the closing stages but managed to get home by 3 wkts with 6 overs or so to spare.

Fives played well and worked hard from start to finish against a very good and dangerous SW side to record their 7th win in 9 games. It leaves them top at the half way stage of the season.

Man of the Match: The bowlers done a fantastic job, but the MOM has to go to Adrian`Tino' Palmer who ignored most of the opposition sledging to smash his way to a fine and well deserved 72 to swing the game Fives way.
