Match report Fives were beaten comprehensively on Saturday by the current league leaders Saffron Walden, who stretched their lead to 14 points at the top. Against a strong Saffron outfit this fixture was always going to be tough. Fives managed a modest total of 219-9 dec of 52 overs with notable contributions from Neary(33), Jack Swash(41) & Shahbaz(78). Although this guaranteed maximum batting points; against a side like Saffron on a good batting track with plenty of time to get the runs, this was never going to be enough and so it proved.

Saffron's opener Oderara who has probably got a century in half his games this year, plundered another one making 126not out in what turned out to be a rather demoralising defeat by 9 wickets at the hands at our rivals at the top. After a good 2 thirds of the season Fives are finding it tough at the moment. There are no easy games in the league as most games have proved this year going into the final few overs. There have been alot of inexperienced players in the team over the last 2/3 weeks due to unavailabilities etc who have not found it easy. However i am sure they will continue to battle hard for one another in order to change a few of these results around.
