Fives and Heronians Cricket Club Lost

Match report Fives lost to local rivals Wanstead by 6 wickets at a rain swept Paddock on Saturday. With a number of regular second eleven players missing this was always going to prove a hard task against a tough Wanstead side and so it proved. Electing to bat first Fives mustered a very modest 184-9dec of 52 overs. This was somewhat of a recovery after being 117-8 at one stage. The lack of experience within the side was showing at times on Saturday, although everyone did try their hardest. Credit to both the skipper Steve Poulter who made a resilient 31* and Ben Bacon 34 in what were their first real knocks of the season.

In reply Wanstead pretty much cruised to victory. The bowlers found it hard with the wet ball, but to be be fair it was the same for both sides and Wanstead coped better with the conditions and convincingly won by the comfortable margin of 6 wickets to take the 18points.

The result leaves Fives in third place a point behind Wanstead and 11 points behind the leaders Saffron with only 4 games to go. Fives will have stop the rot and pick up a few wins in their remaining 4 games if they are to stand any chance of finishing top, whilst at the same time hope for a couple of slip-ups from the teams above them.
