Fives and Heronians Cricket Club Won 34 runs

Match report Fives won by 34 runs in a high scoring encounter against Gidea Park on Saturday. After securing 8 wins in their first 10 games and then no win in their next 6, Fives finally secured a much needed morale boosting win. Batting first on a good track and fast outfield their were notable contributions from the skipper Ben Britton (71) and 16year old Russell Beckett who continued his end of season purple patch with a fine (77). This third wicket partnership produced 110 runs to leave Fives well set for a large total. Rana Shahbaz made 40 and some lusty blows from Reggie Coleman (24*) enabled Fives to declare on 284-9 of 52overs which was their largest total of the season.

In reply Fives had a stronger bowling line up on paper in comparison to previous weeks. This proved crucial as Fives dismissed Gidea Park for 250 with a steady bowling display by all. Tarisai Savanhu claimed 4 wickets and Ed Murphy who is improving all the time also claimed figures of 9-1-39-4.

It should be pointed out that Fives had 6 teenagers playing for them, so it is credit to them that they played well and are all making contributuions in what has been a tough period for the team.

Man of the Match: Russell Beckett (77)
Tari and Ed got 4 wickets each and Ben got 71. However, Russell Beckett who has steadily improved as the season has gone on made his maiden half century for the second team.
