Fives and Heronians Cricket Club Saturday 3rd XI v Wanstead on Sat 13 Aug 2005 at 1.30
Fives and Heronians Cricket Club Won 60 runs
Match report
A really good performance - by far the best of the season so far.
Put in to bat in overcast conditions, we made good use of a fast outfield. When rain inevitable started the outfield slowed but good determined positive batting kept the scoring rate at a good level throughout the innings. Kieran Bansal, 63 and Tom Kerr, 72 were the pick of the batsmen but everyone who batted got on with the job and made a valuable contribution against good bowling. We enjoyed the luxury of maximum batting points and being able to declare after 48 overs and have a realistic chance of winning.
The enthusiasm of the aggressive batting spread to the fielding. Using the proven experience of established bowlers (combined ages somewhat in excess of 100 years), coupled with fine fielding (5 catches offered, 5 catches held) Wanstead regularly lost wickets with Keith Coleman bowling 20 consecutive overs to finish with 6 - 73. Derek Maddison chipping in with 19 overs yielding 3 - 70. Even Kieran bowled a straight one (well, helped onto his stumps by the batsman) to take the final wicket for a splendid win.
Another point of note, not a single wide or no ball by our bowlers.
More of the same please lads.
