Match report Fives lost the toss and were asked to field first, coming under immediate bombardment from Butt and Saleem who put almost all the bowlers to the sword and posted a stand of 201 for the first wicket. The first bowler to put the brakes on was young Joe Mordrick who bowled full and strainght as per the captains oft-repeated advice. Once a breakthrough had been made a flurry of six wickets fell, four of them for ducks with Mark Hutchinson picking up three, before the 7th wicket pair took West Essex to a well-timed declaration at 282-6.

Left with 1 hr 55 mins and 20 overs, Fives plan was to make 150 by the start of the 20 overs with wickets in hand for the final push. An excellent start with classical batting by Clive Franklin and Hamaad Sayyed posted 107 in70 mins and was followed by good innings from both Aqeel Kadri, initially scratchy but then striking cleanly, and Ricky Reynolds with a composed 39 off 45 balls taking Fives to 169-2 at the start of the last 20 - ahead of plan. The prospect of an unlikely victory caused a little fright to set in and slow batting allowed the asking rate to creep up to 54 off 6. In the ensuing panic the skipper managed to run out the well-set Rickie Reynolds and Kula leaving 31 needed from the last 3 and 9 from the last.The skipper finally made amends for his runouts by striking the 3rd and 4th balls for 4 and 6 to secure a nail biting win.
