Match report After losing the toss Fives were put in by "draw specialists" Southend-on-Sea and made a cautious start against the swinging ball. After 3 wickets went down for 40 the ship was once again steadied by Commander Greene with a patient 9 off 39 balls. By now, an increasingly confident Kieran Bansal, playing in his first game for over a year, had recovered his timing and proceeded to put on 137 in only 14 overs with energetic assistance from Graham Sibley.

This was a new record for the 5th wicket, replacing Kieran's old record of 83 made with the late and much missed Jeff Roderiques in 2000.

Kieran finished with 158* off 133 balls with 17 fours and 6 sixes. A declaration at 42 overs left Fives with 55-60 overs to remove the obdurate S-o-Sea blockers. An excellent start was made with Mark Hutchinson (always an excellent fielder especially off his own bowling) taking an athletic caught and bowled in the first over to remove their skipper. No further inroads were made before rain intervened and 50 minutes were lost, effectively killing the match against such a negative side. With Fives concerned that further rain might prevent the completion of 25 overs resulting in a "Match Abandoned" 4 points rather than the 8 in the bag for batting, the skipper used himself off two paces and Rickie Reynolds to get through a dozen overs in half an hour. That task accomplished, several bowling combinations were tried to effect a breakthrough with Haroon the most successful. A shartp catch in the slips was made to look easy by Rickie and three more were clean bowled as Haroon ended on 4-50 off 15 overs.
