Match report Finding Basildon & Pitsea's second ground proved as challenging as the Hampton Court Maze thanks to labarynthine road planning. The hosts were tolerant of our late arrival ("happens often") won the toss and opted to chase. With both teams level in 4th place any chance of promotion depended on a win so both teams were up for it. A Fives half way score of 104-2 provided a decent platform on a good track and fast outfield but hopes of a 250+ score were fast receding when the 7th wicket went down in the 45th over with the score at 204. While Graham Sibley once again batted with good sense in the closing overs, U13 Michael Ayrton cut loose with two big sixes, one off the returning opening bowler, to put on an unbroken 53 from the last seven overs.

Earlier in the season, Basildon had chased down a Fives score of 244-5 to win by 5 wickets with four overs to spare so the team were subjected to the Skippers customary admonishment about the importance of bowling straight. The bowlers responded magnificently with seven wickets being bowled or LBW. The other three went to spectacular catches with Graham diving forward full length to snatch one off the floor, Uncle Yaseen leaping at mid on like something out of the Dying Swan (catches off the Skipper's occasional bowling efforts are always well received) to pluck a one handed catch from nowhere, and, the pick of the bunch, Michael Ayrton's remarkable diving two-handed effort in the covers off a really hard hit.

This was a very satisfying 20 point win (B&P 3 points) to which all members of the team contributed with six batters getting 24 or more and all six bowlers tried getting one of two wickets. No catches were dropped and the fielding was good
