Fives and Heronians Cricket Club Sunday Cup XI v Blackheath on Sun 26 Jun 2005 at 2.00
Fives and Heronians Cricket Club Won 3 wickets
Match report
After leaving the paddock at 04.00am Sunday Morning, with some of my players still going for it, I then proceeded to loose the toss and we were very kindly asserted. (thanks team for sticking around, I wouldnt have)
We then proceeded to produce a very good bowling display, in keeping the oppo to 223 in 40 overs on a very good batting wicket
Particular mention must go to 4 of our bowlers.Tirisau Savannhu, who bowled very quick at the death with a few hostile bourncers (which had me a little twitchy and I didnt even have a bat in my hand!) and was unlucky not get a few wickets with the new ball( I wont mention the gloveman by name)
Secondly, Ifti, our new pakistain recruit, who bowled with reasonable pace and with good lines and length.
Thirdly, to rahul bhome, who bowled a good steady spell going at no more than 4.5 an overs - no mean feat against two batsmen who were well set, batting on a shers 'road'
Fourthly, to JK, who bowled 5 overs up the hill with little reward, having bowled 15 overs the day before.
The ground fielding was very good, lead by our first team skipper Daniel Stevens, although the catching was very poor, to say the least.
The batting was lead by Rahul and Ifti who put on 60 for the second wicket - with Ifti making a 50 on debut in good time with a few selective 'slogs' and a few 'authentic' shots mixed in.
When these two departed, it was left to porky (one of those I had left behind the night b4) to smash the ball to all parts to score a very good hundred, although to the scorerers amazement Nick took 7 overs to get off the mark (I dont think you warrant entry to mine and Garys club yet porks on one performance).
We secured victory in the 29th over, with a nice little tickle off his legs for his 2ND four of the innings from 'reggy', to win by 3 wickets.
I would like to thank everyone who played, (especially Adrian Golding in his last outing for the club b4 he departs for Portugal on Wednesday), and to say how much I enjoyed watching 75% of our first teamers playing at the paddock in a Sunday friendly fixture and how much easier it makes the life of Sunday skipper at fives.
Thanks to Rachel (in Arthurs unusual absence) for laying out the teas in between her studying)
Man of The Match - A close call between Nick and Ifti, with Nick just nicking it, on the basis he was a little worse for wears (Im assuming Ifti wasnt in warehouse the nite b4!)
