Fives and Heronians Cricket Club Sunday Cup XI v Kingstonian on Sun 18 Sep 2005 at 1.00
Fives and Heronians Cricket Club Won won by 14 runs
Match report
Fives lost the toss for the second week running and were asked to have a bat.
The batting order was drawn out of a hat by Arthur, which had the disastrous consequences of seeing petrol draw out number 2 - even more of worry was the skipper drawing number 1.
Due to Jack Swashs matchplay commitments, Ben Britton moved up to open with petrol and deposited the first ball of the game into the farm opposite the club house - early start for arthur on sunday.
Dippy made a brisk 17 before missing a straight one. The pop star and Petrol put on 67 for the second wicket, with petrol looking in good form. Fives entered the last 9 overs with only 160 on the board with the loss of 5. wickets.
It was left to Gordrick (sunday run machine) and TB (saturday run machine) to give the innings a little impetus with Gordrick making 59 and TB a quick 22.
Useful late contributions from lawsey and hilts saw Fives set a total of 244 off 40 overs.
Having feasted on Pizza & Chips at tea (thanks lawsey for getting the ketchup), paddy & lawsey opended the bowling.
Russell Beckett bowled very well, taking 2 wickets, and was unlucky not to pick up at least another 2.
Rob Allum bowled an over .
TB & Nick Allum steadied the run rate as Kingstonian were on 111 for the loss off only 2 wickets after 20 overs and were in the driving seat. However, a combination of Nick Allum & myself, fielding at extra cover dismissed both well set batmsen to tilt the game back into our favour.
Before Tb sends me an email, I would like to point out that he had their number 3 caught behind but did not walk much to tbs disgust.
The skipper utilized all bowling options available to him, picking up wickets at regular intervals leaving Kingstonian needing 14 off the last over with 1 wicket in hand. Unforunately, kingstonian tried to blast one of my leg stump yorkers in the direction of the kings head, only to see his leg stump sent cartwheeling!!!!!!
It was nice to end the winning season on a winning note.
p.s. Please could you keep me informed of any mobile number/email address changes during the course of the winter.
