Havering Atte Bower v Fives and Heronians Cricket Club Saturday 3rd XI on Sat 30 Apr 2005 at 2pm
Fives and Heronians Cricket Club Won 155 runs
Match report
On a very slow pitch the Fives innings was marked by two individual efforts. The first was Rob Allum ebventually yielding to his skippers nagging about the "50 and out" rule in pre-league friendlies while the second came from new boy Harshish Singh (Ashish for short.) With Rob having ambled his way to 55, the skipper's nagging led to him hitting 32 off 19 balls as he endeavoured to give his wicket away. In the end he was unluck on two counts, first to find one of Havering's few fielders who could catch and second to be deprived of the chance of proceeding to what would have been a maiden century. (Bidding for club man of the year???) Ashish, electing to bat without a box, long considered to be essential equipment by most, and a borrowed bat, then discarded batting gloves as he thought the handle was too thick. This lack of protection galvanised him into some powerful striking including one enormous six well over the longest boundary bringing him 34 in 24 balls. Thus inspired, he opened the bowling with Ritchie Charlton and took 3 for 5 in his opening spell of 4 overs, all bowled. Four other bowlers had useful spells with the exception of Ricky Reynolds who unfortunately collapsed with a back spasm after one over. Ashish eventually returned to remover their obdurate opener (18 off 89 balls) and mop up the tail with another 3 for 5 off 3.2 overs to complete a great first match of the season.
