Fives and Heronians Cricket Club Saturday 3rd XI v Chingford 3rd on Sat 07 May 2005 at 1.30 pm
Fives and Heronians Cricket Club Won 41 runs

Match report On a very chilly day with showers about, Fives were put in by Chingford on a firm wicket.A brisk start by Simon McKay and Adrian Golding was quickly undone leaving Fives on 13 for 3 in the 7th over. Enter the new boy, Uriel Duncan, to change the face of the game. Batting with typical Carribean flair he despatched his third ball over cover for 6 before perishing for 33 from only 24 balls. At the other end Commander Greene batted with customary diligence in a partnership of 53 with skipper Rotsey who, as usual, struggled with some very flighted leg breaks, his air shots providing much amusement to his watching team mates. When two wickets fell off successive balls in the 29th over Fives were perilously placed at 101 for 6. Fortunately they were able to draw on the diligent application of 9 year old Jake Poulter to see off the hat trick ball and survive for ten overs putting on 31 with the skipper. Fives closed on 184-7 off 51 overs leaving 90 minutes and 20 overs to press for the win. Keith Coleman began with his usual metronomic accuracy while at the other end our other new boy Roger Brathwaite put the ball straight on the spot starting with a maiden and a wicket maiden. When congratulated afterwards on this impressive start he retorted that if we were impressed, he was astonished, having only played two games in the wole of last season. When rested after seven overs he had secured 4-9, all bowled. The change bowlers all performed creditably but with Maddo's fingers frozen stiff he was unable to exploit some turn leading to further rotation of the attack. The return of Brathwaite eventually broke a stubborn stand of 14 overs when a slow long hop ballooned enough to allow the batter to complete his shot before descending gently on the off stump to complete a fivefer, all bowled. Keith now stepped in to mop up the tail with the aid a fine low catch by Tim Nash leaving Fives the victors by 41 runs with 5 overs in hand.
