Hornchurch v Fives and Heronians Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI on Sat 13 May 2006 at 1.30

Match report
Fives enjoyed the better of a high scoring draw against pre-season favourites Hornchurch. At 1.40pm, Fives were 5 for 2 with only 10 players at Harrow Lodge
However, the impressive Brathwaite ably supported by Russell Beckett steadied the ship against some hostile opening bowling from Hornhcurch
Rusell departed with the score on 59 having weathered the early storm to enable terry balllard to join the fray and play his customary array of strokes all around the wicket - mention should be made of his 6 to get off the mark.
Once brathwaite had departed for a valuable 46, Ben Britton joined ballard and together they played sensibly enabling Fives to tick along at 5 an over. There were noteworthy contributions from Rotsey, White & Mckay lower down the order which enabled Fives to post a highly competitive 275 - 8 off their alloted 52 overs.
Ex Fives batsman Kym Beazleigh and former county player Ian Flanagan opened for Hornhcurch and against some disciplined line and length bowling proceeded to put on an opening 100 run partnership.
However the introduction of chalky resulted in the dismissal of Flanagan. The promotion of Telemachus failed to deter the Fives boys who stayed disciplined in the field, particular metion to dan whose ground feilding/throwing was exemplary.
We entered the last 10 overs with Hornchurch needing 90 with 6 wickets in hand. However, tight bowling from Josh and in particular Clarkey meant Hornhchurch were always behind the run rate and they needed 4 off the last ball but managed only 2. It was a good competitive game played in the right spirit - oh and almost complete darkness at the end
