Fives and Heronians Cricket Club Lost loss by 126 runs

Match report After suffering a dissapointing loss against Westcliff two weeks ago, the Fives boys were looking to gain their first win against newly promoted Hutton on a sunny day at the Polo Ground.

After losing the toss - hutton opted to make first use but struggled to gain any early momentum. Tom Clark (tc) & Chris White (chalky) bowled a very testing opening spell

Huttons middle order played sensibly without ever looking like they were going to dominate against a fired up Fives side who were bolstered by some outstanding fielding from the likes of Ben Britton and Nick Rotsey.

The introduction of South African 'A' International Josh Peters (jp) resulted in the dismissal of Essex trialist David Hammond and the game was evenly poised with Hutton 75 for 2 at mid session dinks.

Chalky was withdrawn from the attack having bowled 17 overs off the reel for a very commendable 0/51 of 17 overs - bowling up the hill into slight breeze.

Rahul took a wicket in his first over but this resulted in Hayne & Moragn coming to the crease together and they proceeded to smash our bowling to pretty much all parts - especially to long off !

All bowlers were tried to stem the flow of runs, but to no avail as Hutton rattled up 270 for 5 off 51 overs.

Fievs reply got off to a very confient and postive start with Gary Edwards and Dan Stevens putting on 64 for the first wicket against two spinners with three men round the bat waiting for a mistake.

Nick Rotsey started off playing sensibly, picking up singles where he could, rotating the strike and allowing Dan at the other end to bat with more freedom.


We subsided to 144 all out with 15 overs remaining to record a second defeat of the season. We played well in in the first part of both innings but could not sustain this level throughout the game.
