Fives and Heronians Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI v Shenfield on Sat 17 Jun 2006 at 1.30

Match report
Fives won the toss and decided to make first use of another customary 'shers road'.
Against a steady opening bowling spell Dan Stevens and Neil Brathwaite batted sensilby punishing anything short or over pitched. Neil in particular as also very adept at picking off quick singles to unsettle the fielding side (although some may argue he was unsettling dan more)
After 20 overs we had progreesed to 80 for 1, with Dan in particular looking in majestic form. We then began to increase the tempo with both Neil and Dan beginning to find the boundary with regularity. The heat and earlier dropped chance offered by Dan was beginning to undermine the Shenfield fielding which was becoming a little ragged as the Fives batters were imposing themselves on the game.
Braths departed for a good 69, followed next ball by Nick (porky) Rotsey (2s are at colchester this week mate). This bought first eleven stalwart Chris White to the wicket.
Chris although he started off quite circumpsect, he was then quite happy to pick off singles, nurdling the ball into gaps while giving dan the strike who at the other end was playing an array of shots all round the wicket.
We entered the last 10 overs with the score at 220 for 2 which gave us the perfect platform to post a highly competitve score. The dismisal of Dan for a magnificent 119, lead to a clatter of wickets late on but we still managed to hoik, wack and scramble our way to 298 for 8 off 52 overs - arguably our best batting display of the season
Josh and Chalks both took wickets when bought into the attack as the run rate was beginning to climb. Josh in particular was bowling with good pace combined with good control
Shenfield were 120 for 5 entering the last 20 overs and at this stage were happy to bat out the overs and try to get near 200. Despite TB rotating the bowlers and porks taking an outstanding one handed catch in the clips and a further good catch we were left with the task of taking the last Shenfield wicket with 6 balls left.
Cometh the time cometh the South African international whirlwind express that is Josh Peters but unfortunately he couldnt add to his much deserved 5 wicket haul as Shenfield hung on for a draw.
MOM - Dan Stevens/Josh Peters.
