Match report
Shers produced his typical road for this match, and managed to get a little bounce in the pitch too. Seeing how falt it was and knowing hutton only have one bowler of note, Fives felt confident of being able to chase down whatever was set.
The bowling display belonged entirely to JK and Chris White. With the extra bounce hutton's batsmen offered little resistance except for a stubborn 72 from their opener (who batted all the way through), a classy looking 26 from Hammond and a smashed 67 from their skipper Rob Hayne, who in the process pulled a hamstring resulting in the chaos of a runner and leaving him unable to bowl in the second half. Both bowlers mentioned picked up a 5-for, JK bowling a mammoth 20 overs!
Fives reply got off to a blistering start with Dan Steven smashing their opening pace bowler for 32 in three overs. The other Hutton opening bowler was, as expected their key spinner Iqbal who bowled from one end throughout. Almost everyone got a start, but no one went on to make that big score which would have resulted in an easy win and a much needed 18 points. Everyone was guilty of getting themselves out excpet for Ben Britton who ran out last man Tom Clark with only 10 runs required.
This was a very dissapointing day for Fives but I am sure a lot has been learnt from it and the batsmen will have learnt some important lessons on how to chase a total. This really was a match that should have been won and could prove to be a turning point in the season. To give a team with only one bowler 40 points over the season is a disgrace and Fives really need to wake up and start taking responsibility for the way they play, which includes going out on Friday night and the warm-up before play begins.
