Match report On a wet, cloudy, windy day it was a do or die relegation battle for Fives 1st team. With everything to play for it was always gong to be a struggle without Chalky, Macca or TY in the team this week, but we knew Shenfield would be missing a few players too and if we turned up and played how we knew we could we would have every chance of pulling off a win.

Knowing Shenfield to be a fast scoring ground - you either get 1 or 4 for your shots, it was obvious chasing would give us our best chance of winning. Having won the toss and elected to field our pre-match regime invovled lots of fielding and everyone having a bowl, just in case some dirt bowling was required from Porky, Hamish or Polo. Thankfully this wasn't the case. The four bowlers used all bowled well and were backed up by some good fielding, the highlight being a fantastic one handed pick up and direct hit run out by skipper TB.

However, Shenfield still managed to build gradually and with a late onslought score 263 off their 52 overs. By this time Mords, Swashy and Rob Smith had arrived from Hutton where they had been bowled out for 70 and lost - 0 points. Also during our innings news arrived that Westcliff had been rolled for 135, so everyone was well aware that a win here would put us 3 teams roughly level on points with all to play for in the last match.

263 was an achievable target, but it required one of the top four to score 100 and another to offer some good support with a 60/70. Unfortunately only the dependable Polo did what was required scoring 95* including some very unsheenyesque shots including smashing their opening bowler back over his head and slog sweeping a leg spinner for 6 and even said after the match that he fancied doing it again!!! As for the other top four it was not to be. When Ben Britton was adjudged LBW while still on 0 a sense of for boding came and the thought of games in div 2 next season came to the fore. With the loos of key man TB, Fives never really looked like getting near the target.
