Match report Fives managed to scrape a draw against a very strong 2nd eleven from Wanstead in what was a very one-sided affair. Having won the toss Fives elected to field first in rather damp conditions. Fives only used three bowlers with Reggie Coleman (20-3-85-4) & Rob Allum (21-3-75-3) bowling extremely well in difficult conditions with a wet ball. A rain interuption meant Fives bowled a total of 43 overs and set Wanstead a target of180-9 which was probably about 40 less than they would have got due to the wet outfield

Under normal circumstances chasing such a target with the possiblity of over 40 overs left gave us a chance. However, with the slow/wet outfield, drying pitch and a quality opposition attack chasing was always going to prove difficult. Fives were on course for a record low league score as they reeled at 5-5 at one stage. However, a dogged 50 partnership between the skipper Harding (23) and Shoab Iqbal (26) who received the predictable abuse from his former teammates (all friendly banter of course) helped save the game and the embarrassment of a humiliating defeat. After the departure of Harding for 23, Fives managed to see out the final 5 overs or so to leave the scoreboard looking very strange at 60-7 (match drawn).

Fives picked up 4pts to leave them second from bottom after the first 2 league games.
