Fives and Heronians Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI v Chelmsford on Sat 01 Jul 2006 at 1.30
Fives and Heronians Cricket Club Won 3 wickets

Match report Fives managed to win their first game of the season at the 8th attempt of trying, with a good all round performance. Having won the toss Five decided to field first on what was a very hot day on a fine batting track. Reggie Coleman opened the bowling along with Rehan Iqbal and both bowled ok with not much luck. The Chelmsford openers seemed to be finding the gaps with everything aerial. The first bowling change saw Coleman replaced by Shoab Iqbal who bowled a fantastic spell to change the momentum of the visitors innings. His first 6 overs went for 1 run which enabled Fives to build some pressure and although Chelsmford were not losing many wickets the overs were ticking along and scoring shots were at a minimum. Fives ground fielding was good and confidence was beginning to grow. Fives managed to pick up wickets in the final 10 overs at a good rate and this was mainly down to the youngest guy in the team Rehan Iqbal who showed maturity beyond his 15 years to finish with 5-53 bowling at the death and also picking up two run-outs along the way to round off a fantastic all round performance from the promising youngster. Chelmsford finished all out on the last ball for 237.

In reply Fives made a steady start with Apps and Reynolds sharing an impressive opening stand. The highlights of the batting reply were Phillip Apps who continues his fine season (47). Zain Iqbal (59) who played some fantastic shots and Tino Palmer who made 47 to set Fives up for a comfortable victory. However Fives always like to entertain so what looked like a comfortable victory turned slightly sour as Fives lost their way with the finishing line in sight. It was left to James Lawes to steady the ship and make a vital 25 not out along with Keith Oram who hit the winning run to see Fives home to victory. In what was a hard fought contest Fives squeezed home by 3 wickets with only 2 balls to spare. Although still at the bottom of the table, this win will give the side some much needed confidence as we approach the half way mark of the season.
