Fives and Heronians Cricket Club Lost 34 runs

Match report Fives lost by 34 runs on Saturday against local rivals Woodford Wells. Wells were asked to bat first and made an impressive 276-9 from 52 overs. Fives didn't bowl or field too bad, but probably didn't get the rub of the green as regards to a few appeals. Everyone tried hard and at one stage after 44 overs or so Wells were on about 190-6. However some big hitting at the end of the Wells innings contributed to them getting the upper hand at the halfway mark on a pitch which was flat with a fast outfield. The pick of the bowlers was probably Rehan Iqbal again, who finished with 2-43 of 12 in two steady spells of bowling.

In reply Fives started well with Nick Rotsey and Ricky Reynolds getting Fives of to a steady start. Even though Reynolds was retired hurt for about an hour Fives didn't actually lose a wicket until the score was on 93. The dismissal probably summed up the luck they were having as key batsmen Nick Rotsey got a ball that just rolled on the floor and he was out LBW for 48. This probably changed the game somewhat as the Wells spinners began to turn the screw and the Fives scoring rate was beginning to slow. Zain Iqbal (69) batted well once again to record his third half century in 4 innings for the 2nd's. During the run chase Fives were beginning to lose wickets in their desparate chase to record a much needed win. They finished on 242 all out with about 5 overs left to lose by 34 runs, a result which leaves them btttom of the league with only six games to play.
