Match report We lost the toss and were put in. Excellent opening stand between Phil
and Tom Kerr who both batted well and took us to 125 for the first
wicket in good time. Both got out playing poor shots when if they had
just carried on batting as they were they would have both got hundreds.
This is disappointing, particularly from Tom who has been in the same
situation a couple of times in recent weeks. Apart from running Gordon
out, Zain also batted very well again but a flurry of wickets in the
middle order slowed out progress. After Zain was out Josh batted very
effectively in the search for quick runs allowing us to get to 255-9 off
52.
Shoab and Rehan bowled very tidy opening spells but concentration then
wandered from the fielders who were drifting through proceedings
somewhat. At the start of the last hour they needed about 110 to win
with 8 wickets in hand and should have cruised it. A talking to at
drinks woke the team up and they fielded and bowled superbly in the last
hour. Zain was exceptional in the field and Rusty bowled 10 overs
straight through with good control. Helped by 4 run outs we had about 2
overs at the last pair and despite coming close couldn't nick the last
wicket. Rehan bowled a second very good spell of 6 overs and is looking
better every week. With the right guidance he should turn into a good
first team bowler.
As an aside to the match, we had to start 25 mins late and with no bails
as none could be found. Some eventually arrived about 6-7 overs into
the game. This has been noted on the results sheet. Also thanks to
Terry Savanhu for a couple of dubious decisions in our favour!
