Fives and Heronians Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI v South Woodford on Sat 02 Sep 2006 at 12.30
Fives and Heronians Cricket Club Lost 47 runs

Match report Fives lost by 47 runs against South Woodford in their fight to survive relegation. South Woodford batted first and made 261-8d of 52 overs, which was probably 25 runs or so too many. Although the general ground fielding was ok and Fives took some smart catches, the ones that were dropped proved most costly in their attempts to restrict the visitors total. There were 7 or 8 in total. The bowlers tried hard in poor conditions, with the pick of them being Shoab Iqbal who came away with highly impressive figures of 20-3-69-6 to continue his great second half of the season. In a season which has proved difficult for the team he has batted and bowled well and has improved as the season has gone on in his first season at the club.

In reply Fives needed some of thier big players to perform well. It was a frustrating reply because Fives didn't bat badly, but they were always against the clock and to their credit South Woodford's three young spinners all bowled well against batsmen who probably would have actually preferred playing against a bit of pace. Gordon Worlow batted well for 63 to further show he is slowly getting back to the sort of form he showed over the previous few seasons. Fives pretty much had to go for it as a draw was no good and in their attempt finished on 214ao with the skipper Harding last man out stumped to leave Fives 47 runs short of their target.

With one game left the bottom of the league looks as follows:

8) Saffron 160pts
9) Loughton 158 pts
10) F&H 152 Pts

F&H are away to Loughton
Saffron are away to Chelmsford who are in second (i think)

It is all to play for still with one game left and Fives can still survive, however they will have to beat Loughton and then rely on Saffron not getting a win. Now i know what its like on the last day of the Football Premier league season when teams are fighting for survival and also relying on other teams. Nail biting stuff, but who knows what might happen next week.
