Fives and Heronians Cricket Club Sunday Club XI v Ardleigh Green on Sun 11 Jun 2006 at 2.00
Fives and Heronians Cricket Club Lost loss by 8 wickets
Match report
Fives won the toss and unsuprisingly opted to bat in the sweltering conditions in a 40 over game.
Lawsey & AP opened the batting on a straw coloured shers road where 250 was a target score. Lawsey lasted 2 balls b4 the returning glenn jackson entered the fold.
He and AP batted watchfully (against avg 3rd team bowling) for the first 10 overs as we progressed to 40 for 1. The dismissal of AP, bought Nick (porky) to the crease who was unusually circumspect against 3rd team bowling. Nick departed for not very many, which bought Gordrick to the fold.
Unfortunately, due to neither player having had much practice (especially jacko) we could not find the required momentum to post any sort of challenging score. The innings stalled badly against a ring field and after 30 overs we were 110 for 6.
JK went in at no.7 and played a very good innings under the circumstances, placing the ball into gaps and playing a big shot when he could. Unfortunately, none of the lower order (ben, rusty, tino or me) could lend him any support and he was left stranded for a good 30 odd with 2 overs left of our innings.
We took the field with the new ball needing to take wickets so an attacking field was set for the first 10 overs. Tino bowled very well being unlucky not to pick up more than one wicket. Rusty also showed a glimpse of how he could be scotlands new 'freddie flintoff' bustling in and bowling a good line and length in between the odd no-ball.
JK was bought into the attack to replace rusty, and he took the wicket of the sri lankan oversas who had peppered the short boundary despite having 4 fielders placed in that general direction.
Roy Smith (league run machine) entered the fray and the game was up shortly after as it was abundantly clear that we were 100 below par.
MOM - JK
If we expect to bat first on sundays then people need to show more urgency otherwise we will get hammered every week, the oppostions bowling was very average and we should have batted a hell of a lot better. Apologies to rusty (arguably the best batter in the side on current form) for batting him at no.10, but i do try and give other people a chance (who dont get a game on saturday) so as not to upset good club members.
