Match report This was The Great Escape, Episode 2, for the 4th team. Following the epic one wicket win three weeks ago over Stanford when Rob Allum and Uriel put on 59 for the 9th wicket to snatch a highly improbable victory, yesterday's win was just as unlikely. Joe Mordrick, batting for the first time for three years, hung in there for eleven overs with skipper Atul to drag us up to the target of 133 from the unpromising position of 119 for 9. Eventually, after 40 minutes of unwavering concentration from both batters, a remarkable win was achieved in a low scoring match when Joe eased one past cover for the winning run!

Earlier, Fives had inserted Benfleet on a damp track offering assistance to the bowlers. A remarkably violent assault by opener Brady, 21 off 9 balls, was mercifully ended by a brilliant Brathwaite caught and bowled which later required off-field treatment to a badly bruised hand. Thereafter, Fives gradually reasserted control with tight bowling before Atul wrapped up the innings with a career-best 4 wickets for one run off three overs.

A total of 132 was a bit below par but Fives were resolved not to be as complacent as the previous week when the chance to chase down a low score was squandered by a poor attitude. The first six batters all made determined contributions with some being got out by high and uneven bounce. Three wickets then fell with the score on 97-5 with Chirag stumped first ball, Uriel out 3rd ball top edging a pull and young Ashish bowled by a good one second ball. Roger again batted well (with an injured hand) to steady the ship with Atul before losing his off stump swishing to leg. Enter a really nervous Joe Mordrick and the rest is history.
