Match report Fives were unconcerned to have lost the toss on another superb track at Old Chigs. While Lewis, opening the bowling for the fierst time, had a little trouble locating his radar, Uncle Yaz dropped straight onto the right line and length picking up both openers, one with the aid of a smart stumping by Tim. Siraj again bowled with pace and aggression but with a second eleven line and length meaning that the bat was beaten many times but he failed to pick uo a wicket. By now the Hornchurch number 3 was batting very well with excellent shot selection. Unfortunately the skipper put him down off a relatively easy chance, the sixth drop off the persevering Bob Speller in two games. The introduction of Mark Wheeler brought an element of control and with Haroon's suspect back permitting a few gentle but testing overs the combined pressure resulted in the last six wickets crumbling away for 25 runs.

With Sooty's dodgy knees loosened by a little light bowling and a lengthy spell at first slip, where he had no occasion ro touch the ball much less run after one, he declared himself fit to open the batting in place of the vice-captain, absent golfing!!! An opening stand of 55 in 11 overs with Uncle Yaz got us off to a great start and set the stage for the Commander's third fifty of the season as he guided us home to an excellent win with 16 overs in hand.
