Fives and Heronians Cricket Club Lost 19 runs

Match report Fives lost the toss and were sentanced to almost three hours in the field with Maddo and Uncle Yaz taking the biggest workload. A patchy looking strip mostly played well as Horndon worked their way to 229-4 with Maddo suffering the usual array of dropped catches. In reply, Fives got off to a poor start when Simon Mckay was adjudged run out going for a third. With Uncle Yaz playing with more restraint than he sometimes shows (maybe because he was knackered after bowling 13 overs) a period of consolidation with the Commander ensued. An aggressive 46 by the skipper took us to 95-2 with half an hour plus 20 overs remaining - a very achieveable target - but one expansive drive too many resulted in a catch at deep mid-off for the second week running. Will this boy never learn!!!! With two more wickets following quickly, Uncle Yaz put aside his tiredness and set his stall out to bat through the innings in the Clive mold. With Haroon batting sensibly at the other end Fives were closing in on the target when Haroon, well down the track, was adjudged LBW with 28 balls remaining and 31 wanted. When Unacle Yaz finally fell to a tired shot after two and a half hours of sustained concentration the tail was unable to finish the job.
